The Soong Ching Ling Children’s Foundation of Canada funded the schools of some poor regions of China such as Ningxia in the north-west of China. China offered only nine years of free education. Many good students could not afford to proceed to Grade 10-12. The Foundation offered scholarships to such students who were thus able to complete high school. Once they were accepted by universities they could receive assistance from the universities and various government sources.
